The Surgical Unit

This is a 37 bedded emergency/elective surgical unit incorporating emergency admission and elective admissions. Here, we champion the Enhanced Recovery Programme and utilise a large team of multi-disciplinary members to optimise the patient experience.

The unit is a fast paced and dynamic environment offering exciting educational opportunities for development. These include: Topical Negative Pressure training; Support by our dedicated tissue viability nurses; Central/Hickman Line training supported by our Outreach team; and Peg/NJ/NG feeding supported by our nutritional nurses.

The team is passionate about delivering quality care and value teamwork to give patient centred individualised holistic care.

Operating Theatres Department

Our staff within Tameside’s Operating Theatres Department are dedicated in providing and maintaining the highest possible standards of individualised patient care. The aim of the unit is to deliver safe, effective, and holistic care in the perioperative environment, whilst maintaining the patient’s dignity and respecting religious, cultural and ideological differences.

We are comprised of a modern suite of theatres in the Hartshead South Building. The specialties include eleven Operating Theatres: Orthopaedics both Elective and Trauma, Colorectal, Breast, ENT, Gynaecology, Plastics, Dental and Ophthalmic surgery, and 24hr Emergency and Obstetric Theatres.

Emergency Orthopaedic Unit (EOU)

The Emergency Orthopaedic Unit  (EOU) is a 24 bed ward primarily for the care of emergency orthopaedic trauma patients who have recently undergone major surgery.

As a team we work together and take pride in delivering the highest standard of patient care in a safe modern environment and we are looking for like-minded professionals with a positive approach who share this ethos and passion for providing a high quality service.
